This blog post is compleltly dedicated to podcasting. Podcasting can be a very useful tool in education for teachers and students alike. The uses for podcasting in class are numerous. Everything from students interviewing themselves, playing the role of historical figures, giving verbal presentations, and another example is for students to record themselves in foreign language classes to help with proper pronunciation. Teachers can use podcasts in a variety of ways to help enhance the learning experience. For an example a teacher may post a weekly podcast to parents stating what is happening at school this week, and reminding them of important dates. A teacher may record themselves lecturing about a difficult math problem and when students are at home they can review the steps needed to take to find the answer. Podcasting allows teachers to teacher outside of school walls.
The two podcasting tools that I used this week were itunes and auidoboom. Everyone has itunes from time to time to get movies or music, but a feature that is less used it the podcasting tab. In this tab the user can find podcasts from a variety of topics, such as educational and sports. Most of the podcasts that I looked at were free and could be downloaded into the personal library free of charge. One of the unique features that itunes has, is the breadcrumb feature. If one is going around searching for a certain podcast and you hit a dead end the breadcrumb feature allows you to choose where you want to start your search again. This is very helpful in the fact one may be close to what they are looking for and instead of restarting the whole search, one can choose where to resume the search. Another unique feature that itunes has is that it is attached to apple. More and more people around the world are connecting themselves to apple and itunes, and this allows a user to publish a podcast to the world on a system that is widely used. Audioboom is another great tool that lets users create their own podcasts. In addition to it being free one of the unique features that it has is the ability to record for up to ten minutes. This is very uncommon on free podcast recording sites. Another unique feature to audioboom is the ability to download the app on your personal device. This allows users to be able to podcast away from the computer or laptop.
The first that I had to do in order to create my podcast was find a podcast that related to education and intrigued me. The first thing that I did was get to the podcast section of itunes and look under the education category. Then I proceeded to narrow my search even more by looking under K-12 education. After looking around for a bit I found the show that I ultimaelty used and listened to a couple of their podcasts. Once I decided which podcast I was going to use, I simply wrote down a few notes to guide my response and podcast. Once that aspect was finished, I logged into Audioboom on my phone and recorded my podcast.
